Common mistakes with ERE credits
Most ERE credit losses aren't caused by the market, but by data errors and compliance gaps. Learn the four most common mistakes and how to avoid them.

Contents
The biggest losses on EREs rarely come from the market. They come from errors in data and process — often without an organisation noticing, until the annual verification exposes them.
Mistake 1: unreliable data
Standalone files, manual entry and disconnected systems make the CO₂ justification untraceable. That data still fails at verification, however correct the charging sessions themselves were.
Mistake 2: no view of the compliance requirements
Without knowing exactly what the Energy for Transport Regulation requires, registrations get submitted that do not qualify. The consequence often only surfaces afterwards, at a point when correcting it is no longer possible.
Mistake 3: no view of the payout structure
If you don't know what CO₂ reduction a session earns or when payouts happen, you cannot steer or check your return. A lack of clarity turns a revenue stream into a black box.
Mistake 4: underestimating the complexity
The process looks simple, but it is tightly regulated — and still in transition from HBE to ERE. Underestimate that, and you miss exactly the requirements that separate a valid registration from a rejected one.
What happens when a registration is rejected?
If a service provider exceeds the 2% materiality threshold, the registrations involved get a rejected status in the register. That does not automatically mean everything goes to zero: the NEa investigates the consequences case by case. So the risk is real, but not absolute — which is exactly why preventing it is cheaper than fixing it afterwards.
How do you avoid these mistakes?
By working with reliable, automated registration and having upfront visibility into both the compliance requirements and the payout structure. More on the requirements themselves is in ERE compliance and verification.
What Voltico does for you here
These errors usually start in data and process, not in the market. Voltico screens out impossible sessions continuously instead of only at the annual audit, and is itself registered with the NEa, with a Normec QS audit over 2024 that found no omissions. Want Voltico to watch over your charging data from now on? Register your charger.
What does your charging earn?
