ERE (emission reduction unit)
An ERE (emissiereductie-eenheid, emission reduction unit) is a tradable unit representing 1 kilogram of avoided CO₂-equivalent across the chain, measured against a European fossil reference value. The ERE system replaced the HBE system on 1 January 2026. The Dutch Emissions Authority (NEa) administers it; ERE’s are held in accounts in the Register Energie voor Vervoer (REV, the Dutch register for energy in transport).
