MID (Measuring Instruments Directive)

MID refers to the Meetinstrumentenrichtlijn, the European Measuring Instruments Directive setting the requirements a measuring instrument must meet. For ERE booking, MID certification means the meter recording the supply to transport is officially regulated. Since 1 January 2026 that MID meter must be integrated into the charge point; a separate MID meter in the meter or fuse cupboard no longer qualifies.

The alternative is an exclusively metered allocation point: if the connection or the SAP is dedicated solely to transport, not every charging point needs its own MID meter. Businesses that booked in before 2026 with an external meter have a transition year until 1 January 2027; private individuals have no transition year.
