Fast-growing emissions market calls for transparency and airtight compliance
The market for emission reduction units (EREs) generated from electric vehicle charging is growing quickly, and with it comes a growing need for reliable, auditable processing of charging data. This young market brings its own set of challenges, from data quality and registration to compliance. That's why, starting today (01-09-2026), we're joining forces with Road (also known as E-Flux), one of Europe's leading EV charging management platforms, to handle the processing and monetization of ERE. This marks the first time a European charging network operator and a specialized ERE registration provider have established a direct integration at international scale. Through this partnership, Road is making the ERE market directly accessible to all eligible customers across its network of 350,000 users.
A growing ERE market demands greater reliability
Since January of this year, ERE's have offered private charge point owners an appealing financial bonus. For every kilowatt-hour charged, emission certificates can be issued and then traded on the Dutch emissions market, ultimately paying out in euros to the charge point owner. As the number of charge points in the Netherlands rises and more parties look to benefit from ERE's, the reliability of the underlying data and the integrity of the (digital) record-keeping become critical. A charging transaction must be verifiable and traceable to qualify for an ERE. That makes accurate registration and compliance an essential requirement for actually generating revenue from these certificates.
EREs demand automated precision
The partnership between Road and Voltico is the first to fully automate this process at a major European scale. To carry out this process with maximum precision, Voltico combines fintech-based technology with automated checks and a strong focus on compliance. "An ERE is ultimately comparable to a euro in your bank account. You want to be able to determine exactly how much has accrued at any given moment. You can't discover afterward that part of it is missing or that the records don't add up," says Maarten Poot, CEO of Voltico. "In a market that's still relatively young and complex, we bring the transparency and auditability that's needed."
From charging session to payout
Through its charging platform, Road supplies charging session data from both consumers and businesses, which is then automatically verified and processed by Voltico's software. This means charge point owners never have to handle registration or administration themselves. Eligible Road customers can have their ERE's processed directly through Voltico by connecting their charging environment straight to the Voltico platform. "The EV transition can only succeed if charging is accessible and appealing for everyone — that's the idea Road was built on. ERE's have recently become a great addition to that mission: they give people an extra, tangible reason to make the switch to electric driving. With Voltico as a partner, we can now make that step even easier for our customers," says Charity de Rooij, Chief of Staff at Road.
Through its charging platform, Road serves a large and diverse customer base, ranging from individual consumers to businesses, including organizations such as IKEA, Siemens, and Rabobank. Companies using Road Private Label can also share their charging data with Voltico through Road. The first customers can begin ERE registration for 2026 starting in September, with the first payouts expected this fall.
How it works in practice
Connect: Road customers who choose Voltico can link their charging environment directly to the Voltico platform via this link. This connection gives Voltico access to the relevant charging data.
Automatic processing: Voltico automatically retrieves the charging data and checks it for completeness and accuracy. Additional data (beyond charging sessions) is also collected from customers to ensure fully compliant record-keeping.
Registration and trading: Voltico registers and trades the ERE's on the emissions market.
Payout: Charge point owners receive periodic payouts.

About Voltico
Voltico is a Dutch tech company that helps organizations and individuals earn money from their charge points by monetizing emission reduction credits (ERE certificates). The company was founded by brothers Maarten Poot (co-founder of Felyx) and Edward Poot (formerly of Adyen and founder of Cino). Using innovative software, Voltico automates the verification, registration, and payout of ERE's. As a registration service provider, Voltico ensures that ERE certificates are processed and paid out on a regular basis, driving the shift to electric driving and contributing to the accelerated phase-out of fossil fuels.
About Road
Road builds technology for processing EV charging transactions and payments. Headquartered in Amsterdam, the company provides the infrastructure that lets CPOs and eMSPs offer charging and payment services under their own brand. Road now supports more than 350,000 users and thousands of partner locations across Europe. By simplifying the technical and operational complexity of EV charging, Road helps energy and automotive companies scale their charging operations efficiently. Security and data protection are a core part of the platform: Road is ISO 27001-certified and compliant with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
As of early May, it's official: individuals with a home charger are now entitled to ERE certificates, charging credits that hold real value on the Dutch emissions market. With this new legislation, the legal framework is now fully in place. A market that until recently was only accessible to businesses is now open to consumers as well.
Voltico is therefore opening registrations for individuals. With our fully automated platform, Dutch EV drivers can now easily redeem their charging credits, generating average earnings of €200 to €400 per year per charging point, fully compliant and with no setup costs.

Today we announce our €1 million seed round. A key milestone in our mission to turn EV charging data into monthly income.
As an independent emission credit service provider, we are already working with dozens of customers. With our proprietary software, we handle the entire process end to end, from collecting and verifying EV charging data, to registering and trading emission reduction units (EREs and e-credits), and paying out proceeds on a monthly basis.
We mark this milestone with:
Interviews in De Ondernemer, Change Inc., and Duurzaam Ondernemen
A nomination for the Congres Laadinfra ’26 Innovation Award
