Step-by-step

As a leading emission credit service provider, Voltico enables companies to claim and trade EREs with no extra admin. Simply connect our software, and we take care of everything else. Here’s how we work, step by step.

1

Connect Voltico

Once all eligible EV chargers are connected to our platform using flexible API endpoints for seamless data exchange, Voltico begins tracking charging sessions in real time. No additional hardware or manual uploads are required.

Using smart batteries or solar panels? Voltico syncs all energy data and organizes every charging session, even if you have multiple chagring locations.

2

Validate charging data

Our system verifies and matches charging data with user, charger, and regulatory identifiers. It checks eligibility, completeness, and timestamp accuracy to ensure full compliance.

Charging sessions must be validated to claim ERE emission credits. With Voltico, you’re always compliant and audit-ready.

3

Claim credits

With your verified kWh from charging sessions, we register and claim ERE emission credits with the Nederlandse Emissieautoriteit (NEa). Generating renewable energy on-site? That can double the value of your credits. Earn up to €200 per MWh.

Charging EVs with grid energy? You can still earn ERE emission credits. Voltico guarantees optimal value for every kWh charged.

4

Trade credits

We trade your ERE emission credits through established brokers to secure the best prices and terms. Voltico operates independently from fuel suppliers and always trades through the market to maximize your return.

We always bundle EREs into larger offerings, making them more attractive to buyers and allowing our clients to benefit from economies of scale. For larger charging volumes, we can explore fixed prices with buyers, providing companies with predictable, recurring income

5

Monthly payouts

Once your ERE emission credits are traded, earnings are automatically paid out every month, creating a recurring cash flow. A full audit trail is accessible on our platform.

We automatically issue an invoice and transfer the income to your account, eliminating any manual administration on your side.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are ERE emission credits and how do they work?

Emissiereductie-eenheden (EREs), also called emission credits, fall under the European RED III directive and encourage the use of renewable energy in the mobility and transport sector. Since January 2026, they have replaced hernieuwbare brandstofeenheden (HBEs). Companies that charge electric vehicles earn EREs, while fuel suppliers need to obtain enough EREs to meet their legal obligations. By trading EREs, the system rewards clean energy use and contributes to a more sustainable transport sector.

Which chargers are supported?

Voltico’s software integrates seamlessly with most existing systems and charging points, whether public, semi-public, or private, across one or multiple locations. It is compatible with AC and DC chargers, as well as commercial and residential solutions. If you’d like to check whether your chargers are eligible, contact us or schedule a short call.

Do I need extra hardware?

You don’t need any additional hardware if your charging data is measured via certified meters. This applies when your charger is MID-certified, or when chargers are connected through a secondary allocation point (SAP) that exclusively measures charging activity. Voltico is fully software-based, and flexible API endpoints allow seamless data exchange with chargers, smart batteries, and solar panels. No hard- or software modifications required. We work with leading CSMSs, OEMs, and MSPs to ensure a scalable and reliable setup.

How are payouts calculated?

Your monthly payouts are based on three factors: your charging volume, the market price of EREs, and Voltico’s fee. 1. Charging volume Payouts depend on your charging volume. With more than 50 MWh (50,000 kWh) of EV charging per year, charging from the grid can often generate around €100 per MWh (€0.10 per kWh) net. Charging sessions that can be linked to simultaneous on-site renewable generation, such as solar panels, can yield around €200 per MWh charged. 2. Market price of ERE emission credits The value of ERE emission credits is determined on the open market and depends on supply and demand. Prices may therefore fluctuate and are not guaranteed. Historically, ERE prices have ranged between €10 and €20 per ERE. At an ERE price of €15, this translates to approximately €80 per MWh in net earnings after all costs. 3. Voltico’s fee Voltico deducts a pre-agreed percentage of the realized earnings, with tiered pricing for higher volumes. Any one-time setup costs are deducted from the first payout, meaning no upfront investment is required. Voltico operates on a no-cure, no-pay basis: fees are only charged when ERE emission credits are successfully sold.

Can I white-label Voltico?

Yes, Voltico offers a co-branded portal for partners. Partners receive their own dashboard to manage and monitor clients, while each end client has access to an individual portal for insights, reporting, and payouts. As an emission credit service provider, Voltico remains visible and accountable for ERE credits from a regulatory and compliance perspective. At the same time, partners fully retain the commercial relationship with their end clients. Voltico delivers the underlying infrastructure, software, compliance, and settlement, while partners stay in the commercial lead.
