Turn charging at work and at home into recurring income
As of 1 January 2026, eligible kWh charged for electric transport can be converted into emission reduction units (EREs, also known in the market as ERE certificates). This turns charging sessions into an additional revenue stream. Awesems provides the chargers, the charge card and the energy; Voltico handles the validation, ERE registration, trading, and automated payouts.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
What requirements does my company have to meet?
The grid connection must be registered in the company's name. If you lease the building, the landlord issues a formal authorization allowing the tenant to claim the ERE credits. Only wholly owned (100%) subsidiaries can be included by the parent company; a subsidiary may not register on behalf of its parent. Because of audit costs, participation is usually profitable from 50 MWh (50,000 kWh) per year.
If a subsidiary registers itself, it issues its own authorization to the emission credit service provider, such as Voltico. As a volume indication: an electric car charges roughly 3 to 5 MWh per year, a van around 10 MWh, and a truck 100 MWh. We are happy to help you determine whether your charging volume is sufficient.
To record energy consumption we perform a one-time update on the charge points. Their functionality stays unchanged, including access via charge cards or tags. If a third party manages the charge points, we coordinate that update with your permission.
What is ERE?
ERE stands for emission reduction unit (Dutch: emissiereductie-eenheid). EREs are tradeable units awarded for renewable energy delivered to vehicles. Voltico registers your charging sessions with the Dutch Emissions Authority (NEa), sells the resulting units, and pays you your share. ERE replaced HBE as the unit under the scheme on 1 January 2026. It is a further development of the same instrument, not a new one.
I rent my premises and the energy contract is in my landlord's name. Am I still eligible?
That depends on which grid connection the charging runs through, not on who owns the building or who paid for the charge point.
Do you have your own connection in your own name? Then you are the claiming party, even though you rent. Nothing changes about how you sign up.
Does charging run through your landlord's connection? Then your landlord is the party who can sign up, because they deliver the energy to the vehicle. Whatever you agree between yourselves is up to you. A landlord with several properties can cover them in a single registration.
If you are not sure which applies to you, raise it with us before you sign up. We will look at who delivers, who invoices and whose name is on the connection, so nothing is registered on the wrong party and the same kWh is never claimed twice.
Am I committed to anything when I sign up?
Signing up through our website is entirely without obligation. You only commit to Voltico as your emission credit service provider once you successfully complete the full onboarding. From that moment the authorization applies for the current calendar year, 1 January through 31 December. After that you are free to cancel or switch. No connection costs, no cancellation fees.
Voltico deliberately works only with annual contracts: we would rather leave the decision to renew to you, based on a good experience rather than on small print. The ERE authorization system works comparably to health insurance, where an authorization is valid for one full calendar year at a time.
Do I need a green energy contract to earn EREs?
No, and it makes no difference which supplier or tariff you have. Because EREs are awarded for the renewable part of the energy you deliver, what counts is the renewable share of the Dutch grid mix. That share is set each year, and for 2026 it is 50.5%, so you earn EREs on 50.5% of the electricity you charge. Because the figure is restated annually, it can differ in later years.
Is my charging point eligible?
Your charging point needs a MID-certified meter, and this is the most common reason a home charger does not qualify. Please note that a substantial share of chargers already installed in the Netherlands do not have one.
You can look your charger up in the list of MID eligibility for the most common models, which we publish. If your model is not on the list, its spec sheet will tell you whether the meter is MID-certified. Note that a German Eichrecht certificate is not the same thing and is generally not accepted; we need to see the MID certificate itself.
What does it cost?
There is no subscription fee, no connection fee and no set-up fee. Voltico takes a 20% service fee on the actual revenue; you keep 80%. If for unexpected reasons you cannot generate any EREs, we charge you nothing.
What can I expect to earn?
It depends entirely on how much you charge. We refer to our website to calculate your possible income.
Do charging sessions from before I signed up count?
Yes. Once you are registered, we can include sessions from MID-metered charging points from 1 January 2026 onwards. You do not lose the months before you signed up.
How long does it take?
Most of the form is a few (up to 10) minutes' work and the identity check takes about two minutes.
