Extra revenue from your charging hub? Greenchoice Integrated explains how they claim ERE certificates with Voltico

Many companies with their own charging hub are leaving money on the table. Not because the chargers don't work properly, but because the financial value of those charging sessions goes unclaimed. By claiming Emission Reduction Units (EREs), that value can be captured.
Greenchoice Integrated, the wholly owned subsidiary of energy provider Greenchoice, shows in this case how they tackled this together with Voltico. See for yourself how the ERE process has been fully automated as a result, generating additional revenue from charging sessions.
Why are ERE certificates valuable?
Fuel suppliers are legally required to reduce their chain emissions and demonstrate this through Emission Reduction Units (EREs). These units are generated by using renewable fuels, such as biofuel and renewable electricity for transport. Fuel suppliers can purchase these EREs on the market, for example those generated via charging points, which directly incentivizes emission reduction financially. This gives every charged kilowatt-hour a concrete market value. Demand for EREs is expected to rise sharply in the coming years, as the statutory Fuel Transition Obligation (Brandstoftransitieverplichting, BTV) increases from 14.4% in 2026 to 28.4% in 2030.
In practice, claiming EREs proves complex. Collecting the right data, demonstrating the origin of the electricity, and meeting the requirements of the Dutch Emissions Authority (NEa) all require specialist knowledge and a reliable emission credit service provider.
Building and operating charging hubs for the business market
Greenchoice Integrated owns its own charging hubs, batteries, solar panels, and wind turbines. Beyond that, it develops and operates integrated energy systems for the business market. A common scenario is an office building with multiple tenants, where the property manager isn't able to install the charging hub themselves. In that case, Greenchoice Integrated builds and manages the charging hub as Charge Point Operator (CPO). Once there's a reliable charger accurately tracking kilowatt-hours delivered, a platform that keeps all the data in order, and a partner that claims the EREs, the owner can generate additional value from the charging hub.
Greenchoice Integrated initially handled ERE claiming in-house, but the volume of data that needed to be processed across every facet of the process proved time-consuming, error-prone, and complex.
Looking for an independent ERE registration partner
That's why Max Labee, business developer, set out to find an independent specialist who could help Greenchoice Integrated claim EREs. Voltico turned out to be the ideal partner. Thanks to its smart software, ERE functionality could be easily integrated into Greenchoice Integrated's existing platform.
With automatic data validation and a compliant claiming process, Greenchoice Integrated and its customers now receive periodic ERE revenue, without any changes to existing hardware or software.
In-house solar and wind generation increases the value of EREs
With Voltico, Greenchoice Integrated can process not only charging data and grid consumption, but also its own generation: what its on-site solar panels and wind turbines produce.
That's especially valuable, because within the ERE system, electricity from on-site generation can count for up to double that of grid electricity. When a charging session is fully powered by solar or wind, it qualifies as a 100% ERE: the green ERE with the highest market value. The higher the share of renewable energy in a charging session, the higher the value of the corresponding ERE.
Data from solar panels and other energy sources is automatically incorporated into Voltico's software, making it possible to precisely determine what portion of the charged electricity came from renewable generation.
